Tour Itinerary

Unlike other food tours, our goal is to provide an experience not available to the general public.  You will have an authentic behind-the-scenes experience at many of our stops.   The tour is approximately three hours in length.

Carlo' s City Hall Bakery

This location has been used as a bakery for almost a century.  It was acquired by Buddy Valastro's (AKA the "Cake Boss") father in 1989.  The bakery currently produces 50-70 specialty cakes, 300-400 birthday/event cakes and a full selection of Italian pastries per week, all made by hand.  Buddy and his family can be seen weekly on the TLC series, "Cake Boss." Antique Bakery

The coal-fired brick oven at the Antique Bakery has been in use since 1938.  Primarily a wholesale bread bakery, owner Ivan, bakes about 2500 hand-made loaves every day, seven days a week.  Varieties include whole wheat, semolina, ciobatta, focaccia and panella.

Fiore's 

Opened in 1913 and purchased by current owner, John Amato Sr. in 1965, Fiore's House Of Quality is a Hoboken institutiion.  Fiore's famous "Roast Beef & Mozz" was given the Best Hero award by the Village Voice.  John and his son, John Jr., typically make about 160 pounds of fresh mozzarella daily.

Lisa's

Founed in Monte San Giacomo, Salerno , Italy in 1946, Anthony Lisa has been making fresh mozzarella and many other Italian delicacies at his Hoboken location since 1971.  Anthony still lives directly above the store.  Lisa's was named Best Deli, Italian Style, by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.

Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria

An offshoot of the original Patsy's Pizzeria founded in 1933, you won't find slices served here in one of Zagat's top rated pizzeria's in the NY metro area.  The coal-fired brick oven was designed and built by the owner.

Empire Coffee & Tea Co.

Empire Coffee & Tea has been satisfying caffiene cravings in the NY metro area for over a century.  Empire still has its original location in Manhattan as well as its Hoboken store.  Owners Abbe & Paul roast there own cooffee beans as well.  Named best coffee in NJ by the Newark Star-Ledger.

Lepore's Chocolate

Since 1982, Mario Lepore has been making Hoboken's finest chocolate.  Mario is the creator of the Cap'n Crunch Chocolate Bar and the Bear Paw ( Macadamia nut, caramel and white chocolate).  During holiday weeks, he makes up to 500 pounds of chocolate daily, by hand!

The Cheese Store

Believe it or not, there are other great cheese from Italy besides mozzarella.  Located in the old Levelor blind factory, The Cheese Store has an extensive selection of Italian cheese including Tallegio, Sottocenere and Robiola.
